Ten Must Haves for your Garden this Summer

British Summertime is always unpredictable, but we all love our gardens at this time of year. If you can’t go out then stay home and enjoy your garden, maybe even invite some friends over. Fire up the BBQ or have a garden party.

I set myself a challenge to find 10 things on Etsy which would make my garden more fun and inviting.

I am an Etsy Affiliate, so if you click through my links and go on to buy something, then I may earn a little money. It will cost you no extra though so thank you so much for your support of my blog x

1. Garden Furniture

You need somewhere to sit and enjoy your garden. It can be a lovely patio set, an outdoor table and chairs, a bench with stools or even a picnic blanket. You can find what you need on Etsy and I have some in my favourites. I have a ratten garden set myself, but I’d love a real wooden picnic table like this one.

2. Flowers and Plants

You can make your garden look so much nicer with careful planting. Depending on the size of your garden you can have flower border, flower beds, raised beds, or pots.

Here is a good starter pack of 5 mixed plants.

3. Lighting

When dusk falls but it’s still warm, it’s lovely to be able to spend more time outside. For this you will need lighting and there are lots of ways of doing this. Solar lamps are great for this and you can plant them anywhere. However, we love fairy lights and we have some just like these all around our seating area. They are also solar powered so the sun during the day keeps them alight at night.

4. Garden Ornaments

Whether they are on your lawn or your patio, ornaments can brighten up your garden and create a focal point. I’m a big fan of wall hangings, wind chimes and all kinds of figures. But this gorgeous peacock really caught my eye.

5. Fire Pit

When it gets cold you can replicate a camp fire with a fire pit. Some of them are ultra modern like this one. (If you don’t want to use it as a fire pit it would make a beautiful flower planter.

6. BBQ

When it comes to Summertime our thoughts turn to BBQs. We have already had our first BBQ this year and it’s only April. You can get everything you need on Etsy for the perfect BBQ, from actual BBQs to utensils and aprons. I found this really nice sign though and it would look great on the wall behind our BBQ area.

7. Dinner Sets

Whether it’s for the BBQ or a picnic, you’ll be needing something to eat off while outside. I love this melamine plate bowl and beaker set from Emma Bridgewater.

8. Bunting

Parties outside are great. I have four children with summer birthdays and we are well rehearsed, like this Frozen party we had for Boo’s 7th Birthday. There are lots of ways of decorating but bunting is a must.

9. Gnomes

Some people love gnomes and some people don’t. I’ll let this fabulous decoration tell you how I feel about them.

10. Gazebo

The weather is unpredictable but don’t let that keep you out of the garden, stick up a gazebo instead.

What Did I Buy? Favourite Things from My Etsy Winnings

Last year I was lucky enough to win £500 in vouchers to spend on Etsy. I could have gone for one expensive thing, but I decided to keep it in my account and use it for the little things I wanted to buy. I found some lovely shops and ended up with some fantastic buys. I want to share some of my favourite things with you here.

Light Up Your Life

When Boo asked me for some fairy lights for Christmas I may have gone a little over the top. I bought some lovely lights which both the girls have lining the shelves on their bunkbeds. These are so incredibly pretty and the girls love them. Battery powered, I have to keep reminding them to turn them off, but they have the switch near their pillows and are able to turn them off before going to sleep easily.

The New Rug

I needed a new rug and I was looking for something purple and shaggy. I was so pleased to find this rug on Etsy and for only £26.99 for the size I wanted. I love it so much I’m considering buying another for my bedroom.

Crystals

I have always had a passion for crystals and already had a couple of crystal shops favourited on Etsy. I treated myself to some new crystal treats.

Love Light and Harmony is on of my favourite shops and the Lovely Lindsey will make bracelets depending on what you need. You can tell her your problems, physical or mental, and she will choose the perfect selection of crystals and use reiki on them before sending them to you. They are always so beautiful and unique. This is one of my favourites.

I also bought a lovely lapis Lazuli necklace from Lindsey which I don’t think I’ve taken off since I bought it.

Another of my favourite crystal suppliers is Tru Path And I bought myself some lovely things from Tru.

One was a real treat for myself and it was a gift box including a facial roller and many other crystal items.

Mugs

Mugs are a great buy and you can find any kind of mug on Etsy. I chose a mug for my daughter (the crazy cat lady) on one for my husband (the PS4 addict.)

Sadly my daughter’s cat mug is no longer available but it’s a little like this one

Soaps and Candles

Etsy is a great place for handmade soaps and candles, especially vegan ones. Here are a few that I purchased.

A Real Treat For Me from my Favourite Things

I’m not one that buys stuff for myself very often, I much prefer gifting. But as I won the voucher I felt that I could really treat myself. Of course, I bought other people gifts too, my husband had a new wallet and I bought jewellery for others, and the lights for the girls of course. I also bought some Christmas decorations including coasters and a door wreath. But now I had the chance to buy some of my favourite things.

I am a big fan of ‘His Dark Materials’ and always wanted something based on the Alethiometer than Lyra uses. I fell in love with this steam punk inspired watch based on the Alethiometer from The Geek Booteek I bought one for myself and I love it so much.

Do you Etsy? I’ve spent all of my voucher now but I was a customer before and I will remain a customer. These are some of my favourite things.

You can see all my favourite shops here.

I am an Esty affiliate so if you click any links on my page and purchase from Etsy you may earn me a little money. It will not cost you any extra so thank you for your support.

I’m going to be brave now and list my very own Etsy shop here. I will be adding items over the next few days.

For the Home

I say, for the home, but it’s for me really. I’m really get back into crystals again. I have a collection dating back nearly 30 years. When Boo showed an interest in crystals recently, she was astonished to see how many I had stashed away. What I really want is a lovely bowl to display some in on my coffee table, but I’ve not found the right one yet. But while I was looking I came across is gorgeous blue agate tea light holder from Empowered Crystals.

My Favourite Etsy Shops

Today I would like to share with you my favourite Etsy Shops. We all have different tastes and maybe this will give you a little more insight into me and the things I like. I am an Etsy affiliate which means my links may earn me commission if you click through and buy something. It won’t cost you any more though, isn’t that great? I love being an Etsy Affiliate, it’s a wonderful magical place of things to find and there is something for everyone. Most of it is home made and by using Etsy you are supporting small businesses which is a lovely thing to do, especially in these difficult times.

So, let me share with you some Etsy Magic.

Here are my current favourite shops on Etsy, I’m adding to them all the time. I also have favourite lists of items. It’s good to be able to keep the things your love in places easy to find.

Jewellery

When I was 12 years old my Mum bought me a silver necklace for my birthday. I remember it was a Dusty Bin necklace from the gameshow 321 which I loved. I wish I’d kept it, I bet they are pretty rare now! It started my love of jewellery, I had my ears pierced when I was 13 and since then I’ve collected a lot of lovely items. I do love handmade jewellery though, especially things made with glass or crystals. Here are a few of my favourites.

Turquoise Tree of Life Pendant

Glass Butterfly Pendant

Leaf Ear rings

Crystals

I love crystals and I have been collecting them for 30 years! Here are a few Crystal Items I’ve added to my favourite things.

Bracelet

I already have bracelets from Love Light and Harmony but I definitely wish to add to my collection.

Crystal Tree in Rose Quartz and Carnelian

Gemstone Bowls

Candle Holders

I love candles, but I also love the adorable candle holders you can buy on Etsy.

I hope I have given you some inspiration and encouraged you to pop on over to Etsy to see what you can find.

The Squishy Things in Life

My children love tactile things like slime or squishies. We have spent many an hour destroying having fun in the kitchen making our own slime. But when the disasters became too unbearable we went on to buying stuff instead.

Now you may think this is an easy task, most stores sell some sort of slime or Squishies, just take a look in The Card Factory or The Works. They probably even sell it in the supermarket. But, we are a fussy lot and we like ours to be particularly squishy, or squidgy or smell just right.

We love Etsy for this, it’s a risk buying online because you don’t get to smell or squidge before hand. But then most products sold in the shop come in sealed containers so you don’t know what you are getting until you open them anyway. We have come to love a few Etsy sellers that have not let us down and we would like to share them with you.

Slime Marshmallows

Kristi from Slime Marshmallows is our ultimate favourite seller for slime. She always contacts us after an order to make sure it’s sent out at the right time if it’s for a special occasion. Slime does have a ‘shelf life’ but if I’m honest, we still have some fabulous slime from her that has lasted for ages.

All slime orders come with: borax powder, a small bag of extras, a personalised note and a care sheet. You can generally choose whether you want a basic pot or a stronger one. The stronger one is more expensive but your slime will last longer in it.

The orders are always a delight to receive and they often come with extras which can include either: glitter, foam balls, fimo slices or beads!

Her shop items change regularly but I’ll show you some of the favourites we’ve tried or wanted to try.

In Your Dreams £6.50
Love Potion £3.50
Rainbow Chiffon Cake £6.25
Unicorn Ice cream cloud £5.95

I bet you never thought slime looked so good! It also smells and feels amazing. (oh, okay, I admit, I like it too!)

Squishies

The thing about squishies is; they are fabulous while they last. Sadly, as they are meant to be squished and squashed they do tend to fall apart. So, don’t expect them to last forever…unless you don’t squish them which defeats the object.

They also come in many shapes and sizes. Some like them hand size so you can just squish away while doing other stuff like watching tv or homework. Some like them bigger for that stress busting squish experience. I think they are cute so I like to have one on my key ring. Big or small, it’s so nice to give them a little squish every now or then.

Squishes can be really soft or a little firmer, some squish and come back into shape immediately and some are slow rising. Everyone seems to have a preference.

Here are a selection I’ve found to share with you.

Some Squishies look yummy but don’t eat them!

(my son found half a doughnut under my daughters desk in her bedroom and told her she was disgusting for leaving food in her room…I went to see and found out it was a squishy doughnut!)

Popcorn Squishie £1.50
Mochi Squishies £1 each
Disney Squishies £4 each
Pack of 7 slow rising jumbo Squishies £15.81

I’d like to finish off with this fabulous party kit I’ve found. We have had all sorts of crafting parties for birthday’s in the past. Last year, Boo went to a birthday slime making party which she loved. However, this is a squishy party kit with everything included for 10 children to design their own squishes. All you need is a table with a disposable table cloth and the kids will have a wild time. So tempted to try this myself for Boo’s birthday this year.

10 person Squishy party pack £67.18

I hope you’ve enjoyed my squishy, slimy post 🙂 I have included affiliate links which if you click and go on to buy something you will help me earn a few pennies at no extra cost to yourself. So thank you x
