I thought it might be nice to start a Detective series and seeing as I have a passion for the Irish I decided to start with The Cormac Reilly Series by Dervla McTiernan. Fortunately, Dervla Mc Tiernan has written a few Novellas so that you can get a taste of her style. The one I chose was The Roommate

The Blurb for The Roommate
This audio novella is a stand-alone prequel to the Cormac Reilly series.
Twenty-two-year-old Niamh Turley thought she had problems dealing with the obnoxious principal of the school she’s teaching in as well as the anxious parents of her little charges, but when she wakes one morning to a missing roommate and a garda knocking on her door, her life spirals out of control fast….
My Review
This was a great little listen, just two and a half hours. The story fitted a lot in during that time and although it was a little predictable it was still a nice read. The main character, Niamh, was really likeable and you were hoping for a happy ending for her, despite it seeming like her life was falling apart. It did seem really short and I’m sure it could have been made into a full length novel with a little more substance. Sometimes a nice short read is what you need though, and if it’s free with your subscription, then all the better.
I’ve read another novella by Dervla Mc Tiernan, The Wrong One, which was okay but the ending was really disappointing. But it wasn’t a Cormac Reilly book. I do like her fast paced thrilling storylines though.
This book was much better than The Wrong One, but you didn’t really get to know Cormac Reilly too well. After reading I decided to go straight onto the series and I’m now reading the first book The Ruin
, and so far it’s really good.
Have you read any of Dervla Mc Tiernan’s books?
