This is the fourth book I’ve read by Rob Rinder. It is a series but each book is a stand alone case, by reading them all you get a more detailed view of the lives of the characters.
I’ll tell you what I thought later, but first here are the details of the book.
The Defence by Rob Rinder

The bath salt has been poisoned. And now Adrian is dead. His long-suffering assistant Jules is the prime suspect.
Barrister Adam Green is tasked with Jules’s defence, and he quickly realises that there were many more people with a score to settle against Adrian.
Can Adam win the day, or is he in too deep?
My Review of The Defence
It was nice to delve back into the life of Adam Green, we’ve seen him progress into his career throughout the books. But not as far as his friend Georgina. In this case we see him in two cases, one of which he is the defence where Georgina is the prosecutor.
The book starts with a murder as do all of Rob Rinder’s other books. This seems like an easy case. Only one person had access to the poison that killed Adrian Well’s, fitness guru, his assistant Jules.
Adam, however, has a duty to defend Jules and even though she is originally a prickly character he does feel that something isn’t right. We see him also having to defend Jordan Spencer who had punched a man and killed him. He was on charge for manslaughter but also a secondary charge of homophobic abuse, which could increase his prison sentence.
Adam is under barrister Ursula for the Adrian Well’s case but has to deal with Jordan Spencer himself.
Interspersed in the book are the phone calls from Adam’s mum, this is something Rob Rinder has always included in his books and it adds a little humour to the stories.
There are a few twists and turns in the story and you are kept guessing for most of time if Jules, or indeed Jordan, are actually guilty or innocent of the crimes they are accused of. Adam has to do a lot of digging to find his answers.
Rob Rinder describes the proceedings in law and the courts with detail because he used to be a barrister himself. But, he also makes it interesting and at times even humorous. If you like light hearted courtroom dramas you will definitely like Rob Rinder’s books.
