As a big fan of Richard Osman and The Thursday Murder Club, I couldn’t wait to see what else he had to offer. We Solve Murders did not disappoint.
The Blurb
Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar habits and routines: the pub quiz, his favourite bench, his cat waiting for him when he comes home. His days of adventure are over: adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s business now.
Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. As a private security officer, she doesn’t stay still long enough for habits or routines. She’s currently on a remote island keeping world-famous author Rosie D’Antonio alive. Which was meant to be an easy job . . .
Then a dead body, a bag of money and a killer with their sights on Amy have her sending an SOS to the only person she trusts. A breakneck race around the world begins, but can Amy and Steve stay one step ahead of a deadly enemy?
My Review of We Solve Murders
I actually enjoyed this much more that the first of the Thursday Murder Club books. The action starts straight away and the puzzles begin. There was action and humour and more than a hint of what’s to come in the future.
I used my Audible credit for this month on this book as I love Nicola Walker narrating. The 10 hours of this story flew by, I couldn’t stop listening.
Richard Osman is typically British but he travels the world in this book, from Ireland to the USA to Dubai. There was one part which actually brought a tear to my eye, but it was a personal thing to me so it may not affect you in the same way.
I love the new younger characters, but I’m glad that Richard Osman has some older characters too, he writes old people so well. It makes you feel like you are never too old for an adventure and he’s actually inspired me to do something I’ve never done before (don’t worry there will be no danger or murder involved!) I’m going to go abroad, I’m sorting it out now. After next year I’ll only have myself to worry about so it won’t cost an arm and a leg. Although I don’t think I’ll be going by private jet like Osman’s characters. (Unless I meet a really rich person who wants a companion by then, lol!)
I really can’t wait for the next instalment and getting to know the mysterious Adam Wheeler a bit more.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It is so good, isn’t it? There was a bit which had me in tears too. I wonder if it was the same bit?
I need to check out Richard Osman! And good for you for planning a trip abroad. Way to go!
This would make a great birthday present for my brother. Thank you for an intriguing review!
