There was nothing I liked more than reading to my kids when they were younger. I remember reading to my older kids and can recall their favourite books from 30 years ago. Sometimes, bedtimes became awkward because they both wanted me to read to them together at the same time. So, I would open their bedroom doors and sit on the landing and read to them both, having to lift up the book to show the pictures.
With my younger kids the girls were in the same room, and The Little Man in his own room, so me and Dad used to take it turns to read to them. Now, they all read for themselves. But families still grow so when I was offered these books to review I jumped at the chance and I’m definitely going to read them to my little nephew when he comes to visit me next, and I’ll let him take them home.
The first book is the one that has brought back all my memories.

My Review of Reading Together
This book is about every family that loves to read to their children. Full of gorgeous illustrations it shows the progress of a family enjoying books in all sorts of places.
Follow this family as they read all sorts of stories and have lots of fun with books. Right up until the point where their little girls starts learning words and eventually starts reading by herself. A natural progression and the beginning of the love of books.
This picture really touched me.
The parents look at the bookshelf and remember they hadn’t read a picture book in a while. They remembered the times they had spent reading together and developing a love of books with their daughter. I too miss picture books but I will enjoy these with my nephew.
Alone Together by Suzanne Bloom
This is a book that younger children will enjoy but is also a great first reader.
This paperback book is part of a series about a Goose and a Bear. This story also features a fox. It’s a simple story with many illustrations and few words on each page.
Sometimes Bear wants to be alone, but his friends don’t understand and think that he wants to play. Fox finds it difficult to understand what peace and quiet means.
Eventually though, they find a way to be alone together.
It’s a really simple story where friends learn what being quiet really means. Bear just wants quiet, but his friends have different ideas of what quiet means, until Bear finally shows them.
It’s very cute and the illustrations are lovely.
I miss reading to my girls now that they are older.
These books sound lovely for little one’s. x
I love the illustrations in Alone Together 🙂
