I read Just One Damned Thing After another by Jodi Taylor after a recommendation from a fellow Terry Pratchett friend.
The Blurb
he first book in the best-selling Chronicles of St Mary’s series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won’t be able to resist Jodi Taylor.
Time Travel meets History in this explosive bestselling adventure series.
‘So tell me, Dr Maxwell, if the whole of History lay before you…where would you go? What would you like to witness?’
When Madeleine Maxwell is recruited by the St Mary’s Institute of Historical Research, she discovers the historians there don’t just study the past – they revisit it.
But one wrong move and History will fight back – to the death. And she soon discovers it’s not just History she’s fighting….
My Review of Just One Damned thing After Another
I’m a little late to the series with it being written ten years ago, but I’m glad I found it. It was humorous, thrilling and full of fantasy, history and time travel. I loved the bundling character’s of St Mary’s and can’t wait to read some more, I’m pretty sure the series will get better.
If you like a humorous time travel series with lots of action and completely unbelievable story lines then this could be for you.
There is also a bit of a raunchy scene which probably adds a little adultness to the series. I could liken the bumbling characters to the wizards of the late great Terry Pratchett’s Unseen University.
I did find it difficult to stop reading/listening. It was an easy enjoyable read but there are a lot of characters to get used to.
I will look forward to reading the next instalment.
I listened to the book on Audible and enjoyed the intonation of the narrator Zara Ramm who did a good job of bringing these characters and the story to life.
You can also buy the book from all good bookshops.
Have you read any Jodi Taylor?
I don’t like fantasy books, but this does sound quite intriguing! I like to read something humorous from time to time, so I wouldn’t rule this out.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
Oh, I like the sound of this one. It’s not something I would normally read but I think I might give this a go. x
