A Place to Read

The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods, a book review

I chose to listen to The Lost Bookshop because I was looking for a light read and I’m a sucker for books about books and bookshops.

The Blurb

‘The thing about books,’ she said ‘is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever dream of.’

On a quiet street in Dublin, a lost bookshop is waiting to be found…

For too long, Opaline, Martha and Henry have been the side characters in their own lives.

But when a vanishing bookshop casts its spell, these three unsuspecting strangers will discover that their own stories are every bit as extraordinary as the ones found in the pages of their beloved books. And by unlocking the secrets of the shelves, they find themselves transported to a world of wonder… where nothing is as it seems.

My Review of The Lost Bookshop

I liked the way the book intertwined the stories of the 3 main characters, Opaline, Martha and Henry. I did find the book a little tedious at times though, but I’m a struggling romance reader.

The story got interesting when Opaline was put in an institution by her brother. He was a nasty character, as was Martha’s husband, Shane.

The book was a little too unbelievable at times, which is ok, I’ve enjoyed lots of unbelievable books, but I did feel as though the author was finding it difficult to balance out the magical element and the romances, and the storylines. It was all a little too complicated.

I had worked out some of the ending, but there were still a few surprises. There are a lot of books around that incorporate characters being in a story, within a story and I’m okay with that. I just don’t think Evie Woods achieved it well.

It was a pleasant enough read though, and the traumatic experiences were not that bad. There was a fair bit of romance, but again, not over the top.

I’d recommend to people who like a bit of romance and a little magic.
