I picked up The Fury at a recent trip to Waterstones in their Buy One Get One Half Price Offer. I had no real idea what it was about or that his last book, The Silent Patient, was a Tik Tok Sensation!
The Blurb
It begins with a phone call. And it ends with a murder . . .
Seven friends gather on an idyllic Greek island.
Among them: the actress, the playwright, the housekeeper, the second husband and the wayward son.
There’s jealousy, betrayal, unrequited love, a handful of secrets and too many lies.
Thirty-six hours after they arrive one of them will be dead.
You’ll never guess who. You’ll never guess why.
My Review of The Fury
I was drawn into this story, part first person, part third. Very mysterious, yet very normal.
The narrator, as he calls himself, is Elliot Chase and he comes from a tough background, an abusive upbringing. He was taken in by an older lady who wrote books and was wealthy. He was in love with an actress slightly older than himself.
The book starts with us knowing that he’s now a friend of the actress and gets invited to a private Greek Island for a ‘get together’ with friends. One of those friend is the actress he’s in love with.
It’s all a bit complicated and jumps from past to present with different timelines interlapping. It’s clever and intriguing and one of the fastest books I’ve read this year. I couldn’t wait to find out what was really going on.
Then by the third part (or Act Three) you kind of start losing the plot, what on earth is going on.
Then the fourth part is even more crazy. It does make sense, but it’s hard to get your head around. It’s complicated but addictive.
After all that you get a conclusion that leaves you kind of stunned.
I think I might start scoring my books out of 5 like I do on Good Reads. For this one I’d have to go 4/5. I really enjoyed it but did feel a bit cheated by the ending (that’s not saying it’s not a good ending though.)
I’m going to read The Silent Patient Next, this author has me hooked on his writing.
I don’t think I would like this book. It sounds confusing. #MMBC
It was confusing, but very different and intriguing. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like to be challenged by reality.

This sounds like my cup of tea! I’ve never heard of it before – or the TikTok sensation – but I will definitely look out for it.
Sounds intriguing! I’ll be giving this one a look.
